2024 Major Elections
Tuesday, March 19th, 2024: Presidential Preference Primary
A Presidential Preference Primary takes the responsibility from the two state parties (Republican and Democrat) from conducting a caucus. Instead, the state conducts a primary election. It is a “preference” primary because it is not a direct election, rather the vote totals are given to each political party to allocate delegates to candidates at the national convention. This is not a primary where the voters select the party candidate.
Tuesday, July 30th, 2024: Primary
A Primary Election allows voters to determine which candidates compete in the general election. Arizona state law allows semi-closed primaries, meaning that a voter generally must be registered as a party member in order to participate in that party's primary. A previously unaffiliated voter can participate in the primary of their choice. In partisan primaries, voters choose the candidates they prefer for a political party to nominate in the general election.
Tuesday, November 5th, 2024: General Election
A general election is an election in which candidates are elected to offices. General elections occur at local, state, and federal levels. In some cases, special elections may be held for reasons such as electing a replacement for a seat vacated due to death, resignation, or removal from office.
